Happy New Year!

Our weekly peek behind the curtain. As I tell our daughter every day we need to celebrate what got done no matter how small. This is how we keep moving forward.

This week:

  • We didn’t have school Wed - Fri as the schools engaged in planning for the return to 5 days in-person learning. No classes changes the whole dynamic in the house significantly. We bought ice skates and we spent lots of time playing in the snow.

  • We looked at a building. Our business has been in our current location for nearly 7 years and it is fine… but it could be better. As we always look for opportunities to make life easier and create space for growth moving into a new space is a part of that. So as options pop up we walk through them and we dream a little about the possibilities.

  • The super behind the scenes boring stuff all got done… transferring 2020 files into storage, creating new files, reconciling the books, estimated taxes, sales tax, etc and so forth.

  • The warm weather is allowing siding jobs to continue without a hitch so we are happily siding a lovely home in Prior Lake right now.

  • Steve has been working on catching up. That pile of files on this desk is getting smaller and he is taking care of everything he can.

  • Our concerns about the supply chain continue as we are seeing significantly increased lead times on products from our manufacturer. This is workable, but it creates a need to communicate differently, and to change the production process to not scheduling anything until it arrives.

  • We received confirmation that no home shows are happening until further notice…. putting us into a first-quarter like we have never seen before. At this point in the pandemic that news brings more peace than stress. It allows us to reimagine our business and how we create new business. It allows us to receive the gift of all that time (15-30 hours each Fri - Sun) and therefore we can fill that time differently.

Last but not least, this week’s cheeseburger is the bacon cheddar sirloin with garlic and horseradish number. The directions are specific.. same amount of toppings in every bite. Yum.

Enjoy the weekend. Stay safe. Stay careful. Be hopeful of the good that is to come.
