Love letter to a double hung window.. why I love my double hung windows!
/Dear Double Hung Window.
Please accept this letter of praise and gratitude, as you have changed my life. You are what I always knew I needed but never knew existed.
When I bought my house the only thing I wished that was different was the windows. Yes, they were old but mostly.. they were crank-outs. YUCK. I know some people like them but I am definitely NOT one of those people. They came with the house and I was sure I was stuck with them but I’m not. When I was ready to replace those old windows I called Steve the Window Guy and he asked me what I wanted. I wanted good energy efficient windows but I really wanted the crank outs GONE! Guess what? He said that for safety they needed to stay in the bedrooms but everywhere else I was able to change them to double hung windows! I had never heard of you. “What is a double hung window?” I asked him. He told me and I nearly fainted. I felt like I had won the lottery! Even the large windows in the living room could change to double hung windows by putting multiple double hung windows side by side! When Steve started walking through scenarios with me I couldn’t believe it. GAME CHANGER!!
Now that you are installed in my home the whole house feels different. It feels modern. Your top window tilting in for easy cleaning only means that I clean you whenever you need it. I don’t need to drag out the ladder and make a whole day long chore out of it. I can just tilt in your top sash, wash it and move on. Not only that, but with the grids in between your glass I can wash each of your sashes in one nice swoop. Remember last week I ended up watching something on live TV and so during the commercial breaks I jumped up to clean you in the living room? Amazing. I have even started leaving your top sashes on a little bit so some of this cool spring air can come in. I use your ventilation latches to keep the window secure and it doesn’t matter if I forget them at night because I know your locks are made to last and I’m safe.
Lastly, as long as I’m already writing a love letter to a window I might was well tell you that I find you quite attractive. Your lines are clean and sleek. Your locks are made to last. I don’t see those old ropes inside the sides so when I open you which only makes you cooler and prettier. And… honestly, I really love it that when I do close and lock you I know it is done. You are strong and you are secure. You are not a wimpy window. I am so glad I have you in my life. You have my love and devotion forever.
