Window Terminology: Window Terms Starting with "L"

Lead Safe Practices

Installation practices required by the EPA in homes built before 1978 where lead paint is present.  The Lead Safe Practices work to contain the spread of harmful lead dust during the install.  Universal Windows Direct, MN has been certified by the EPA to perform lead safe work.

Low-Conductance Spacers

An assembly of materials designed to reduce heat transfer at the edge of an insulating window. Spacers are placed between the panes of glass in a double- or triple-glazed window.

Low-Emittance (Low-E) Coating

Metal or metallic oxide layers deposited on a window glazing surface primarily to reduce the U-factor.   Basically a sunscreen for your glass.  Protects your home from additional heat flow, and suppresses UV rays which can fade your curtains, furniture, artwork and rugs.
